Week 3 Results
Wright defeats Ammazzini, Kirby defeats Curd, Venderbos defeats Jamieson, Jones defeats Clark, Bjornson and Kullman tie.
Summary and Highlights
Team Jones remains the only team undefeated after three weeks. Team Bjornson and Kullman drew the first tie of the Fall meet. Ironically, John and Brian tied in each set of their match at the Indoor Championship in BC. Brian did, however, prevail in the tie-break. Rick K. has a new moniker “ripster”. Something to do with going straight down the middle on Rink 3. Thank you to all our spares who come out with little or no experience on the new surface and do great. See you next week.
STANDINGS AFTER WEEK #3
Jones 3 – 0
Bjornson 2 – 0 – 1
Ammazzini 2 1
Venderbos 2 1
Clark 2 1
Kirby 2 1
Wright 1 – 2
Kullman 0 – 2 – 1

Results from Week #1 and #2 as submitted by G. Chudrick, convenor
Week #1: Ammazzini defeats Jamieson; Jones defeats Kullman; Venderbos defeats Curd; Bjornson defeats Wright; Clark defeats Kirby
Week #2: Jones defeats Wright; Clark defeats Curd; Bjornson defeats Jamieson; Kirby defeats Kullman; Ammazzini defeats Venderbos
“A lot of close contests to the start of the season on October 10th. Three of the five games were decided by no more than three points. The surface was new and challenging to all players but did not affect the level of competition. The newly minted team skipped by first timer, Jamieson, scared Team Ammazzini and will be heard from.
After two games, the teams of Ammazzini, Bjornson, Clark and Jones remain undefeated. Of note, Team Ammazzini has two wins from a combined total of two points. Team Kirby rebounded in week two with it’s first win while team Venderbos suffered it’s first loss to the resilient Ammazzini team. Teams Kullman and Curd are shopping for a lawnmower but will be there soon. It’s early so stay tuned!.
Ten Days And Counting
2018-19 Season Underway
Today marked Day #1 of this winter season. The new indoor surface is designed more specifically for soccer and lacrosse, but we managed to play our games on it anyhow. It is indeed more challenging than the previous carpet. However, we hope that it improves for us with continued use. Results will be posted as soon as received from the convenor.
The afternoon jitney was also well attended for the first day. We encourage more folks to come out and “GIVE IT A TRY” in the coming weeks. Afternoon game time is 1:00 PM and charge is $3.00.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL
Gateway Indoor will open on Wednesday, 10 October @ 10:00 with our usual Triples League. Members are reminded to bring your annual fees ($81.00 cash) on the first day of bowling. Spares will pay the $3.00 fee.
2017-18 Champions
We have a new surface this year which will prove to be a bit challenging but should improve with more play on it. Members are encouraged to stay for the afternoon jitney to welcome our casual members. Afternoon jitney is at 1:00.

Manitoba Medals @ Majors
Team Manitoba earned 5 medals at the 2018 Canadian Championships hosted in Regina. In the premiere women’s event, the singles, Manitobans won both gold and silver. Congratulations to Shirley Fitzpatrick-Wong (see post below) for her gold medal performance. Congratulations also to perennial champion Betty VanWalleghem who fought hard in the all Manitoba final to earn the women’s singles silver medal. Team Manitoba earned three bronze medals also, two in pairs play and another in the fours. Well done to the women’s pairs team of Clarice Fitzpatrick and Marilyn Baron. This duo has an exceptional record playing together at the majors and this year’s bronze medal further cements their names in Manitoba bowls history. Well done. The men’s team of Bob VanWalleghem and John Bjornson have been down this road before – this is their second pairs medal at the Canadian Championships. Bravo! Look for great things from this pairing in years to come…
